Michael Goonan

For the past eighteen years, Mr. Goonan served as the Chief Financial Officer for the University of Rochester Medical Center.  He retired from his position in 2015, but still serves as a Senior Financial Advisor to the University of Rochester Medical Center. Previously, Mr. Goonan spent thirteen years in various senior financial positions within the University of Rochester Medical Center and Strong Hospital.  His thirty years of experience includes strategic financial planning, financial management, accounting and reporting, third-party reimbursement, strategic planning, long-range financial planning, budgeting, patient accounting and registration, receivables management, contract negotiations, total quality management, management and supervision of personnel.  Prior to his experience with the University of Rochester, Mr. Goonan spent nine years at Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co., in Rochester, an international public accounting firm, specializing in the healthcare field with particular emphasis on: financial management, reimbursement, prospective reporting, third-party cost reporting, organization and management, supervision and development of personnel.

Mr. Goonan received his B.S. in Accounting from St. John Fisher College and is a New York State Certified Public Accountant.  He currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong. In addition, he is a Member of the Advisory Committee for the Rochester Red Cross, a Member of the Board of Directors of Canandaigua Bank and Trust, a Trustee of St. John Fisher College and an Honorary Member of the Board of Directors of the Catholic Family Center.  He is the Recipient of the Excellence in Management Award and the Outstanding Alumnus Award from St. John Fisher College; and the 2013 Financial Executive of the Year Award, Lifetime Achievement, Rochester Business Journal.
