Howard Beckman, MD, FACP, FAACH
Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Howard Beckman is a Clinical Professor of Medicine, Family Medicine, and Public Health Sciences at the University of Rochester School of Medicine.   He has 16 years of organizational experience as a hospital chief of medicine and as medical director RIPA (Rochester Individual Practice Association – NY).

From 2005 to 2015, Dr. Beckman served as Chief Medical Officer of Focused Medical Analytics, a company which offered medical groups, ACOs and health plans assistance in identifying areas of overuse and underuse within their network based on unexplained variations in care. His particular expertise focuses on helping organizations engage their practitioner network in these activities by focusing on appropriateness of care and quality improvement. Dr. Beckman’s work has been published widely in JAMA, the Annals of Internal Medicine, Academic Medicine, the American Journal of Medical Quality, the Journal of Healthcare Management, and Health Affairs.

Dr. Beckman is a national thought leader on physician-patient and administration-physician relationship. For the past 15 years, his work has explored the value of relationship-centeredness in administrative roles. His work has focused on understanding and teaching the skills needed to promote organizational success. Across the nation, he leads many community groups and associations focused on health care improvements.

Dr. Beckman received his MD degree and subsequently completed an Internal Medicine residency at the Wayne State University School of Medicine. He received his undergraduate BA degree from Brandeis University.
